In a bid to curb subscriber’s challenges, Reliance Jio has reportedly moved to address the problem faced by hundreds of millions of its subscribers. Although, other top-ranked Indian telecom operators are yet to fix these issues resulting in poor call quality and intermittent voice drop.

The move saw India’s second-largest telecom operator announce that the functionality of voice and video calls via Wi-Fi networks has been enabled. The network operator which provides its subscribers with 4G service made it clear that the features associated with this service will be fully available to all its consumers this week.

Wi-Fi calling feature has become popular in recent years, a feature that allows users to call via their wireless internet connection. However, it’s been figured out also that calls made via this medium have proven to be much better quality than those that rely on traditional telecom infrastructure.

Prior to this development, it was reported that India’s third-largest telecom operator – Airtel, had rolled out this feature in some selected regions of the country. While on the other hand, Reliance Jio or other telecom operators offering this service are yet to place additional charges when subscribers make calls over Wi-Fi networks.

Meanwhile, to access Airtel’s Wi-Fi network within its functional and selected regions, users are expected to be a subscriber of Airtel’s broadband service which is effective on a good number of smartphones. Currently, places supported by Airtel include Kolkata, Mumbai, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and not excluding Tamil Nadu.

According to history, internet calls began to make waves in India about five years ago, and this came after WhatsApp enabled such functionality, while on the other hand, telecom operators in the country had also launched a feature that supports calls over LTE networks.

With regards to the subject telecom operator (Reliance Jio), according to reports, Jio’s Wi-Fi calls functionality is effective on any Wi-Fi network. While the company’s network is also a network that supports over a hundred and fifty smartphone models, which includes high-end Android smartphones and the latest iPhones.

According to the company’s director ‘Akash Ambani’ who made it clear that “the launch of Jio Wi-Fi calling will further enhance every Jio consumer’s voice-calling experience, which is already a benchmark for the industry with India’s-first all VoLTE network”, which is based on the fact that Jio consumers use above 900 minutes of voice calls every month.

Jio and Retail Reliance had earlier this month soft-launched JioMart an e-commerce venture, however, it’s evident they are in for business.
