The company’s own research reveals that 2 in 3 online shoppers say they are more likely to use a retailer when they know that Royal Mail handle the delivery. Studies show that 61% of online shoppers are more likely to use a retailer again if they deliver with Royal Mail.

Royal Mail commands over 47% of the UK parcel delivery market. This comes as domestic and international inbound parcels are on the increase.

Moreover, before pre-2026 changes, parcel volume has shown resilience, with a 5% increase based on reports for the first half of the 2025-2026 financial year.

In this article, we’ll cover how to send a parcel with Royal Mail and Royal Mail shipping. Plus, how to create accounts, Royal Mail international shipping, prices, and standard. Royal Mail collect, shipping costs, and Click & Drop.

DEFINITION:

It’s the prime postal service provider in the UK that offers mail delivery and collection services through its Post Offices.

It’s worth noting that Royal Mail is currently a complete private company. Contrary to the views of many UK consumers. This adds to its strong reputation for reliability. Its parent company, the Royal Mail Group, now operates two major divisions.

1.    Royal Mail: This serves the UK as the nation’s official postal service.

2.    Parcelforce Worldwide: It provides international parcel shipping to and from the UK.

To enhance its service, Royal Mail plans to cut second-class delivery throughout the UK, and will continue well into 2026. Royal Mail also cites a 6% rise in parcel volume. While Ofcom’s 93% target fell to 75.9% of first-class mail collection within one working day.

It comes while lowering targets for first-class post to be delivered the next day from 93% to 90%. And second-class within three days from 98.5% to 95%. The company now set a new target, 99% of all posts must arrive no more than two days late.

In making these changes, Ofcom is seeking to strike a balance between reliability, affordability, and sustainability.

This is in connection with the recent advancements in supply chain technology that are enabling a notable reduction in average delivery time. Now down to 3.7 days, it is a 27% improvement from the previous year.

Despite Royal Mail accounting for a significant share of the overall UK parcel delivery market, previously over 47%. That position now faces increasing competition from other carriers like Amazon, DPD, and Evri.
