
TECH GIANT SONY ANNOUNCES ITS FIRST 5G SMARTPHONE, TRIPLE LENS XPERIA 1 II

The tech and smartphone giant Sony announces its first 5G flagship, known as the Xperia 1 II, but pronounced as ‘Xperia one, Mark Two’ for the curious. However, the company’s 5G smartphone promises three lenses with a selection of focal lengths.
Responding to this development, the President of mobile communications ‘Mitsuya Kishida’ said, “No one understands the entertainment experience better than Sony”, pointing that the company is “uniquely positioned” in the 5G cellular technology that will potentially offer its target users an “enriched” experience.
The subject smartphone isn’t just designed to serve users, but a phone that promises outstanding dynamic speed with enhanced graphics. Based on this, Sony mobile President said: “Whether you are a broadcast professional who requires dynamic speed or an everyday user who desires enhanced entertainment, Xperia with 5G takes your mobile experience to the next level”.
At the top-right-rear of the Xperia 1 II lies three lenses vertically arranged, which offer a selection of focal lengths structured for capturing different types of photos and these are 16mm, 24mm, and 70mm, ranging from very wide-angle to portraits. The three rear lenses have a 12-megapixel (MP) sensor, while the front camera is an 8-megapixel lens.
Speaking of the functionality of the camera, Kishida pointed at it as ultra-fast, low light autofocus, as a world first in a smartphone-based on the fact that it supports 20fps autofocus and auto-tracking burst for capturing crisp action images. Also is Zeiss optics technology – deployed in Xperia 1 II, for the first time in a smartphone.

“Our new continuous autofocus keeps tracking of moving subject. What’s special about this is with 20fps it calculates the object 3-times per frame – that’s 60-times per second – capturing the moment”, Kishida said, adding that “With the power and speed of 5G you will be able to share those moments more quickly and more easily across the network”.
Prior to this development (Sony announces Xperia 1 II), it’s been figured out, the company has been a major supplier of the image sensor to other smartphone markets, based on this, Sony has made Xperia 1 II camera a primary focus for the new Android 10 flagship – a 6.5in 21:9 “CinemaWide” 4K HDR OLED (3840×1644) display with 8GB of RAM, powered by a Qualcomm 865 Snapdragon chip.
Meanwhile, before we’re braced with motion graphics, it’s understood a photo-friendly feature known as real-time eye autofocus is also integrated, this Sony demoed in a video showing a cat playing with a toy. While on the other hand, a ‘Photo Pro’ interface on the phone has been structured to be familiar with users of Sony’s mirrorless Alpha cameras – enabling photographers to take shots via tweakable parameters they are conversant with on Sony’s high profile digital cameras.
On the side of the motion graphics, the company is also said to be paying the same attention to video makers, a video editing interface on the phone that offers touch autofocus and custom white balance features, tagged “visual storytellers” by Kishida, which will help control the camera more easily.
In another dimension, a noise reduction feature that will enable improved audio would see – Xperia 1 II has a 3.5mm headphone jack that will enable audio files to enjoy the pleasure of plugging-in their favorite pair of high-profile headphones. Speaking of the audio quality, Kishida made it clear that an AI technology, known as DSEE Ultimate, that practically enhances the sound signal to “near high-resolution audio”, even when streaming. Also touted by Kishida:
“This is the best on the go acoustic experience available”.
Xperia 1 II will most likely ship from Spring, while at the moment, things are still unclear as regards the potential markets Sony will bring Xperia 1 II. The device will also allow game collaboration that will allow users to play a mobile-optimized version of Call of Duty with the aid of PlayStation 4’s DualShock 4 wireless control.
Lastly, is the smartphone battery capacity – and another one, Sony announcing Xperia 1 II proves that all is set. Battery capacity is 4,000mAh with a promising fast wireless charging. Expect more from Sony, even as it teases Xperia Pro.
